iPhone 18 Pro: A20 Pro, variable aperture, Siri AI

Apple has announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This year's Pro upgrades centre on the cameras, performance, AI and battery life: a new A20 Pro chip, a 48MP main camera with variable aperture, a new vapour chamber, and the new Siri AI.
One thing to note first. As of this update, Apple has formally announced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The standard iPhone 18 was not included in this announcement, so treat any specifications or release rumours circulating for it as unconfirmed until Apple says otherwise.

The iPhone 18 Pro runs the new A20 Pro: 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and two 16-core Neural Engines.

The benchmark figure is not the interesting part. Paired with a new vapour chamber, the chip mainly improves sustained performance and heat handling during long gaming sessions, 4K recording and heavy AI work.
03｜The first iPhone with a variable aperture

The biggest camera change is that the 48MP Fusion main camera now has a variable aperture.
The iPhone 18 Pro offers four settings — ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8 and ƒ/4.0 — so you can set the aperture for low light, depth of field or the scene in front of you.

For most people the benefit is that the phone adapts to the situation. For anyone shooting seriously, the new Pro controls open up proper manual freedom.

The A20 Pro also pairs with a new vapour chamber — a significant change that is easy to overlook. For anyone gaming, navigating for long stretches, recording video or using AI features, heat handling affects the experience more than a short burst of benchmark performance.

06｜Battery and fast charging

Apple Taiwan states the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches up to 43 hours of video playback. With a compatible power adapter, the iPhone 18 Pro series can charge to up to 50% in about 15 minutes.
Do not overlook the charging gear. A phone that supports faster charging does not mean any charger or cable you already own will reach that speed. Real charging power still depends on the charger's output, the cable specification, temperature and the phone's current charge level.
07｜Siri AI
The iPhone 18 Pro will be a main vehicle for Apple's next-generation AI. The new Siri AI understands personal content and context more deeply, integrated with Apple Intelligence.
