Do clip-on earbuds get uncomfortable over time? Do they slip off during exercise?

FairyBeads use an open clip design that grips the outer ear rather than sitting in the ear canal, so there is no blocked-up feeling during long sessions. Each earbud weighs about 5.6 grams, so the load is very light.

The body is rated IP54 for water and dust resistance, which handles ordinary exercise sweat or light rain. How tightly the clip sits varies with ear shape, so check that the fit is secure before strenuous exercise.

They sit outside the ear canal — can people nearby hear what I am listening to?

The earbuds use directional sound transmission, focusing the sound towards the ear canal and reducing leakage by about 90% compared with ordinary open-ear earbuds. In an office or on public transport, people nearby are unlikely to hear what is playing.

Leakage still increases as the volume goes up. In settings that need to stay quiet, use a lower volume.

How long does the battery last, and how long does charging take?

The earbuds play for about 8 hours per charge and about 32 hours with the charging case, which covers commuting and a full working day without a mid-day top-up.

A full earbud charge takes about 1 hour and the case about 2 hours. If you are heading out in a hurry, 10 minutes of charging gives about 1 hour of listening.

How does the AI translation work? Do I need a separate app?

It works with the MEES app. Translation is enabled inside the app, which also offers EQ settings and hearing calibration.

The app also lets you change the touch controls for each earbud and run firmware updates; after purchase, complete one update before you start using them.

Can it connect to a phone and a tablet at the same time? Will callers hear me clearly?

Multi-device connection is supported, so you can switch between phone and tablet without re-pairing each time. Bluetooth is version 5.4, with a range of about 10 metres in open space.

Calls use voice noise reduction, separating your voice from ambient noise, so callers hear you more clearly on the street or in noisy surroundings.
