Why does a "15W" charger still charge your iPhone slowly?

Ever bought a charger advertised as "15W wireless fast charging" and found the iPhone still crawls?

That is because Apple caps the older Qi protocol — an iPhone will only draw 7.5W from it.

🔓 Qi2 is different. It is the next-generation protocol Apple officially recognises, and iPhones from the 12 series onwards support it — which means a real 15W.

🍎 Apple — fully supported

iPhone 12, 13, 14 and 15 series.

👉 They already have the magnets, so Qi2 works natively — nothing to change.

🤖 Samsung Galaxy — needs a magnetic case

Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra support the Qi2 protocol, but the phones have no magnets of their own. You need a case with a magnet ring for it to attach.

Without one it falls back to ordinary wireless charging, which is considerably slower.
