Wireless charging has taken a real step forward. With the arrival of Qi2, the questions people keep asking are: does my phone support it, does it have magnetic alignment, and what accessories do I actually need?
This guide covers what Qi2 is, whether Samsung Galaxy phones support it, and how to choose the right hardware.
What is Qi2?
Qi2 is the latest wireless charging standard from the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium). It brings Apple's MagSafe-style magnetic alignment into a single standard that works across both iPhone and Android.
What Qi2 changes:
- Precise magnetic alignment — no more misalignment or unstable charging
- Better efficiency, less heat — safer, and better for battery life
- One ecosystem — the same standard on iPhone and Android
- Up to 15 W wireless fast charging
Does my Samsung Galaxy support Qi2?
Samsung's Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra are labelled Qi2 Ready. That means the phone supports the Qi2 charging protocol — but there is a catch:
The phone itself has no magnet array. You need a Qi2-certified magnetic case to get the magnetic alignment that makes Qi2 worthwhile.
Qi2 Ready is not the same as native Qi2

If you have a Galaxy S25, pair it with a Qi2-certified magnetic case and magnetic accessories. Without them you get the protocol but not the alignment.
Which phones support Qi2?
Models confirmed at the time of writing:
Apple — native Qi2 support
- iPhone 15 / 15 Plus / 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 14 / 14 Plus / 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13 / 13 mini / 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 / 12 mini / 12 Pro / 12 Pro Max
These have a built-in MagSafe magnet array, so Qi2 alignment works natively.

A reminder: "Qi2 Ready" means the phone supports the Qi2 protocol but has no built-in magnets. A Qi2-certified magnetic case is required for alignment and a secure hold.
How is Qi2 different from the original Qi?
The main technical advances are:
- Magnetic Power Profile — solves the alignment and efficiency problems of the original Qi
- Stable 15 W fast charging — a wireless fast-charging standard Apple officially recognises, not just MagSafe
- Cross-platform — one standard replacing a patchwork of proprietary implementations
This matters in practice. Plenty of older Qi chargers advertised "15 W", but on an iPhone they only ever delivered 7.5 W, because Apple capped the older Qi protocol. Qi2 is what finally makes high-power, cross-brand, magnetically aligned wireless charging real.
